The Taliban reveals the name of its candidate to represent Afghanistan at the United Nations

New York, USA (CNN)–The Taliban movement that controls Afghanistan revealed that it is nominating its spokesman, Muhammad Sohail Shaheen, to represent the country before the United Nations, instead of the current representative who was appointed by the previous government.

This came in a letter labeled “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and dated September 20 and signed by the leader of the Taliban, Amir Khan Muttaki, as foreign minister.

In its letter, the Taliban requested participation in the 76th general session held on September 21, indicating that Ghulam Ishaq Zai does not represent it and that former President Ashraf Ghani no longer represents the state with the recognition of many countries in the world.

The position of Afghanistan’s representative to the United Nations is currently occupied by Ghulam Ishaq Zai, where the United Nations Accreditation Committee is examining the request and the objection made by the current representative.
