Out-of-form Novak Djokovic beat American wild-card Jenson Broxby 1-6 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the US Open quarter-finals.
And the Serbian star is three wins away from immortalizing his name in the world of tennis.
With his quest for his 21st Grand Slam title, which would give him all four titles in one calendar year, Djokovic faced difficulties against world number 99 Broxby, who at one point seemed capable of overthrowing the Serb.
For the second match in a row, Djokovic, ranked first in the world, started poorly and lost the opening set, something he would not want to repeat in the quarter-final against Italian Matteo Berrettini, in a rematch in the Wimbledon final, which the Serbian won in four sets.
The Italian, ranked sixth, will represent a major leap in the quality of players facing Djokovic, who has not yet played against any player in the top 50 places in the world rankings.
