The dollar exchange rate in this market currently ranges between 17950 and 18000 pounds per dollar.

The Lebanese are facing the worst financial and economic crisis in the modern history of Lebanon, and with it the ability of the Banque du Liban to meet subsidies for medicines, basic materials and fuels has declined, which has led to a decrease in their stocks, and the unavailability of fuels in most gas stations, a large part of which closed.

The crisis has led to an increase in the exchange rate of the dollar against the Lebanese pound since October 2019.

The electricity crisis that Lebanon is suffering from is on the cusp of a solution after the American plan, which includes Egypt, Jordan and Syria, reached its final stage.

The American plan is to provide quantities of Egyptian gas to Jordan, enabling it to produce additional quantities of electricity, to be placed in the network linking Jordan with Lebanon via Syria.

On the other hand, Iran was seeking to provide Lebanon with fuel, as the ships moved at sea, but so far it has not reached Lebanon, but in the end it does not represent a final solution to the crisis.

Iran is seeking to supply Lebanon with oil, apparently as aid to solve the fuel and electricity crisis, but this aid carries with it “bad faith” on the part of Tehran, which seeks to drag Lebanon into international sanctions.

Iran is under strict US sanctions, as Washington re-imposed two packages of sanctions on Tehran in August and November 2018, as part of a maximum pressure campaign aimed at changing the Iranian regime’s hostile behavior and forcing it to sit at the negotiating table.

The price of the dollar in Lebanese banks

The Lebanese banks set the price of 3850 pounds to the dollar, when withdrawing the dollar to small depositors, and this has been going on for a while, and it has been in effect until today.
