There was a lot of enthusiasm for Horizon Forbidden West pre-orders will be out this week, but like a lot Sony has been doing lately, the ad has marred more self-imposed controversy. The company has confirmed that, in order to get the PlayStation 5 and PS4 editions after that, you’ll need to purchase the Digital Deluxe, Collector or Regalla editions.
Many assumed that the upgrade would be free, like many other games, due to the language the platform owner used last year. However, by revisiting the PS Blog postings at the time revealed that the company was very careful in its choice of words: “The PS4 digital versions of the launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on both consoles. PS5 with HD Blu-Ray Disc player. Just play games, you see.

To be fair, while social media can be toxic at the best of times, there are several thoughtful requests being made: “Please correct the current situation with the PS4 and PS5 upgrade system.”

please adress the current situation with the upgrade system between PS4 & PS5. The PlayStation community is concerned about this.
Sony has already backtracked on a number of questionable decisions so this year we wouldn’t be surprised if it found a fix here. Offering a $9.99 PS4 to PS5 upgrade fee would be less than ideal, but it could go a long way in our opinion – we’ve reached out to the platform owner about this, and it appears they “have no intention of offering something like this yet.
