The Ethiopian army announced that it had thwarted an attempt by elements allied with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front to infiltrate the area where the Renaissance Dam is located to disrupt its construction.
The Ethiopian army said on its Facebook page that it had foiled this plot, killing more than 50 people it described as “terrorists” and wounding about 70 others who were in possession of various weapons, including mines.
The Ethiopian army indicated that it was monitoring the movements of the elements from the beginning, pointing to the destruction of a number of weapons that were found, and the confiscation of other weapons, adding that “the Tigray People’s Liberation Front was defeated and failed in its attempt to disrupt the construction of the Renaissance Dam.
The Ethiopian army explained that the response to the attempt to disrupt the construction of the Renaissance Dam was attended by a number of its units, including the special forces, and stressed that these forces have the permanent readiness to perform their tasks to the fullest.
