A new life for Zubair and Chobano in a small one-bedroom apartment in Buffalo, New York, which will be their new home. Just a week ago, Zubair was living a nightmare in Afghanistan.
The former translator worked with US forces for four years and applied for a special immigrant visa more than two years ago. Zubair was one of the lucky ones, given it just two days before the Taliban took control of Kabul.
Zubair needed to take his family to the airport. He and his father worked for the US government and knew that if they remained in Kabul, their lives would be in danger.
Possessing a visa, Zubair spent days trying to bypass the Taliban and his family without the help of the Americans, and after 3 days he was able to enter through the Kabul airport gate.
